ERW steel pipes are manufactured by low-frequency or high-frequency resistance "resistance". They are round pipes welded from steel plates with longitudinal welds. It is used to transport oil, natural gas and other vapor-liquid objects, and can meet various requirements of high and low pressure. At present, it occupies a pivotal position in the field of transportation pipes in the world.

During ERW pipe welding, heat is generated when current flows through the contact surface of the welding area. It heats the two edges of the steel to the point where one edge can form a bond. At the same time, under the action of the combined pressure, the edges of the tube blank melt and squeeze together.

Structural EN10219 S275JR ERW Welded Steel Pipe hollow sections shall be manufactured by ERW (electric welding) or SAW (submerged arc welding) without subsequent heat treatment (see 6.5). Hollow sections S275JR ERW Welded Steel Pipe manufactured by a continuous process shall not include the welds used to join the lengths of strip prior to forming the hollow section, except that for helically welded submerged arc-welded (SAW) hollow sections, such welds shall be permitted when tested in accordance with 9.4.3.

• Electric welded hollow sections S275JR ERW Welded Steel Pipe are normally supplied without trimming the internal weld bead.
• All NDT activities shall be carried out by qualified and competent level 1, 2 and/or 3 personnel authorised to operate by the employer.
• The qualification shall be in accordance with EN 10256 or, at least, an equivalent to it. It is recommended that the level 3 personnel be certified in accordance with EN 473 or, at least, an equivalent to it. The operating authorisation issued by the employer shall be in accordance with a written procedure.
• NDT operations shall be authorised by a level 3 NDT individual approved by the employer.
• NOTE The definition of levels 1, 2 and 3 can be found in the appropriate standards, e.g. EN 473 and EN 10256.
